The most Instagrammable places in Sintra
Hello there!
Sintra is a place full of magic, mistery and beauty. The views are astonishing almost everywhere and you will find a new wonder on every corner.
And of course, your camera will love it...it doesn't matter if it is your phone camera or another one, if you go to Sintra, be sure to gather some great material to feed your Instagram!
If you need a hand on planning your Sintra trip, I have posted a 4 Day Trip guide here. On this post I will focus on Instagram-friendly spots that will definitely please any follower!
Let's start with the jewel of the crown: Palácio Nacional da Pena!
PALÁCIO NACIONAL DA PENA
This palace stays on top of a hill, visible from pretty much anywhere with a clear view, its colors will blow your mind and who doesn't like a pop of colour?

CASTELO DOS MOUROS
Castelo dos Mouros is basically a defensive wall from the times of the Moorish and it gives you an awesome view, as it stays on top of another hill, with the best view of Palácio da Pena, as well as a great view from the village.
Not my favourite spot from the list, but definitely of good one!
QUINTA DA REGALEIRA
Quinta da Regaleira is a Wonderland for photography enthusiasts! There are so many great spots to snap that Instagram worthy pick and every corner is more beautiful than the other...then you get to the castle and it is one of my favourite photo backgrounds ever!!!
However, I advise that you study the place a little bit before you go (if you are going there with the purpose of creating some content, obviously) because it might be overwhelming if you don't have anything planned when you get there. Besides, some of the places are a bit dark (like the legendary Poço Iniciático) and you might want to know if you want a photo there, in advance, so you're not caught off guard.
PALÁCIO NACIONAL DE QUELUZ
This one is not exactly in Sintra, it is in Queluz which is not far. It will give you that Versailles vibe in a smaller dimension and with a LOT LESS people!
This palace was made to be photographed because, not only the garden is beautiful, but also every room is worthy of a Queen. Once again, try to be as much prepared as you can, think of the clothes you want to be wearing in order to blend in the environment a little (or not, depends on what effect you want) and check the rules for drones and tripods in the place (and this one is valid for all the places I mention here - we saw a guy having problems because he was using a drone on Palácio da Pena).
Last but not least, prepare yourself to be amazed and think of the photos you want so you don't find yourself overwhelmed and blocked because there are too many places to shoot. It happens to me a lot, that's why I'm saying this. Nonetheless, if you work well without preparation, you do what suit you best :)
PALÁCIO DE MONSERRATE
One of my favourite in Sintra!!
The gardens are beautiful but what will give you the best snaps for your feed is the palace. I had some great shots there (some of my favourites from the trip) but some people exceeded themselves here. You can go and check the photoshoots from this place (there is one that portrays the palace as a witchcraft school that I wanted to link here but looks like it is nowhere to be found now) and be amazed by the possibilities!
PRAIA DA URSA
The last stop of this post has nothing to do with palaces or castles. It is a master piece from mother nature and it couldn't have been more pure and perfect!
It is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, it's called Praia da Ursa, and it's not super accessible but it's not super hard to get there as well. Just make sure you wear something comfortable and that you do not carry to much stuff with you.
When you get there, be prepared to be mind blown by the view and the feeling of being surrounded by cliffs sculpted by the winds and a friendly agitated ocean...you won't want to leave!
Next time you're planning a content creation trip or you just want to see beautiful sights, give Sintra a try and make sure you have your camera always ready to capture the moment...and share it with the world!!!
XOXO,
Bárbara 😉
